Jacquelyne Silver: The Great Composers
1008 Wall Street, San Diego, 92037
Cost: $17 - $22
Each of Jacquelyn Silver’s series of lectures covers two contemporaneous composers. These are composers who forever altered the course of musical history and changed our lives profoundly. Silver will examine musical styles and the way each one heard the magical messages that made them unique. The May 30 lecture looks at Schumann and Brahms. A man of deep complexities who married his great love, Clara, Robert Schumann is at once a delight, a demon, and a composer who wrote in Technicolor. Johannes Brahms was known to be bad-tempered and blunt with his colleagues, but underneath he possessed a heart of gold that shines in his music.
