Did you know that if we take three deep breaths, the oxygen from two of those breaths comes from plants which live in the ocean? Marine plants provide our atmosphere and help reduce global warming, but we know little about them. Students will be introduced to marine plants and encouraged to think critically about what makes a plant a plant: how do plants work? Why aren't all plants green? What is a holdfast? We will discover what makes marine plants different from land plants, how we use products from marine plants every day (think toothpaste and ice cream!), and how to become an investigative marine biologist the next time we visit the beach.
