City Heights Law Day
City Heights Law Day 2019 is in collaboration with the Friends of the City Heights/Weingart Library. The annual ABA Law Day event promotes scholarship and justice in City Heights, one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in the United States. The annual Law Day event has previously included free legal workshops in many areas of law, free initial consultations with attorneys, and joint participation with local municipal entities, law schools, and community service providers. This year’s theme from the ABA is the 1st Amendment, specifically characterized by the themes: free speech, free press, and free society. This year there will be a panel of attorneys/activists speaking to the community for the free speech portion of the day’s program, local City Heights' religious leaders to speak to the community for the free society portion of the day’s program, and finally, there will be a panel of journalists/reporters to speak to the community on the issues of free press. Lastly, we will have local organizations and municipal groups tabling at the event, as well as volunteer attorneys available during the day for free one-on-one initial consultations with members of the community.
