Pac Arts Documentary Film Program
Pacific Arts Movement
As part of its Reel Voices filmmaking program, Pac Arts Movement (better known as the home of the San Diego Asian Film Festival) is offering free classes on documentary filmmaking to high school students. Since 2005, the eight-week summer class has been introducing twelve budding filmmakers a year to the art of documentary filmmaking. That means an avoidance of talking heads, none of this shoot-now-figure-it-out-later nonsense, and for the love of Wiseman, no jiggle cam! (If worse comes to worst, BYOT: Bring Your Own Tripod.) Mentoring students is one of the program’s major selling points: each student works alongside an experienced filmmaker throughout the course of the program. The films will hold their World Premieres at November’s Asian Film Festival and a DVD copy will be bicycled around to other festivals. Each of the twelve participants will receive a $500 scholarship, and no previous filmmaking experience is necessary. The deadline to apply is no later than 11:59 pm on Sunday, March 17th.
