Dr. Frank Varney will discuss his book "General Grant and the Rewriting of History." In 1885, the "Personal Memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant" was published and soon became one of the most influential books ever written about the Civil War. But Dr. Varney argues it is so flawed as to be unreliable. He sheds new light on what really happened on some of the Civil War’s most important battlefields. Dr. Varney regularly leads student groups to Civil War battlefields and makes frequent speaking appearances before Civil War Round Tables and historical societies. He teaches US and classical history at Dickinson State University of North Dakota.
