Carlsbad City Council Candidates Forum
Carlsbad City Council candidates will share their views on the city of Carlsbad’s key issues, challenges and opportunities at a public forum that will be held at the Dove Library’s Schulman Auditorium. The event will be capped with a Q&A with the public. The forum will be moderated by veteran journalist Thomas K. Arnold, a former member of the Union-Tribune editorial board, columnist for the North County Times and Carlsbad planning commissioner. This is the first election in which candidates are elected by district rather than city-wide. Participants include Linda Breen, Tracy Carmichael, Barbara Hamilton and Dave McGee, each vying for the open seat in District One being vacated by incumbent Mark Packard, who has chosen not to run for re-election, and Priya Bhat-Patel in District Three, who seeks to replace incumbent Michael Schumacher, who also has decided to step down. Corrine Busta, also running for District Three, was invited but said she has a scheduling conflict. The media is invited to cover this event, in which candidates will field a wide array of questions, both district-specific and citywide.
