Rising Stars: Claire Lewis & Erica Hwang
The fall Discovery Concert series kicks off with performances by pianist Claire Lewis and violinist Erica Hwang. Already recipients of a plethora of awards and recognized as gifted musicians, they are considered to be the next wave of "Rising Stars" in classical music. Last year, when Claire was just 13, she was the youngest Palomar College graduate in the school's 70-year history. She aspires to become an orchestral conductor and a concert pianist. Claire also plays violin in the San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra Symphony and the Palomar College Symphony Orchestra. She will present piano compositions by Chopin and Mozart. Erica has won numerous awards, has performed in the San Diego Youth Symphony for seven years, performed at Carnegie Hall and toured Mexico, Ecuador, and Colombia last year, and this summer toured China, South Korea and Taiwan. Last year she created her own orchestra, the San Diego Philharmonic, and she has announced she will begin studies at Stanford University this fall. In this performance, she will be playing Sonata No 7 in c minor by Beethoven. The Discovery series of concerts at the library serves to educate the public about various music forms and to expand the opportunity for local musicians to perform and provide insights to their music. There is no charge for this performance and all ages are welcome.
