Samantha St. Pierre 3 p.m., July 18
Few music figures have gone from grizzly bear to teddy bear and back again the way Ice Cube has. As one of the main songwriters in N.W.A. (a credit he later had to file a lawsuit over), he was the dreaded scourge of hip-hop haters, a status that grew with later solo albums such as AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted. Hollywood aspirations landed him in movies like Ride Along, giving him a second career as a comedic family movie star. But the N.W.A. film bio and his work on that soundtrack seems to have inspired him to take his music back to the studio and on the road.
All performances will take place in the seaside concert area, located at the west end of the grandstand. Performances begin shortly after the last race of the day. Concerts are 18 and up and free with the purchase of standard $6 racetrack admission. Returning this summer is the opportunity for concertgoers to upgrade their concert experience in the South Terrace, a premium view and VIP section. For just $50, this exclusive ticket includes an enhanced view with seating, private restrooms and private cash bar.
