Hollywood & the Artist’s Gaze on Vets
New York Times journalist and Marine Corps infantry veteran Join C. J. Chivers will discuss the creative lens on veterans, one generation into the war on terror. Chivers, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his 2016 story about an Afghan war veteran’s travails, will be joined by former Marines and artists — some who are both: Jason Hall, an Academy Award nominee for his screenplay for Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper and the director of Thank You For Your Service; Maximilian Uriarte, the illustrator behind Terminal Lance; and author Dave J. Morris, a former Marine who served as a war correspondent and is author of The Evil Hours: A Biography of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Journalist Lauren Katzenberg, editor of the New York Times’ At War feature, will moderate the discussion in the Beyster Auditorium at UCSD's Rady School of Management.
