Art of Élan: Andrés Martín & the Now Ensemble
Art of Élan’s commitment to commissioning new work and bi-national initiatives continues this season. A highlight is the commissioning of Tijuana-based composer and double-bassist Andrés Martín to write a work for NOW Ensemble (Art of Elan’s ensemble-in-residence.) The piece will be premiered in both San Diego and Tijuana in the spring of 2018, and will be featured on the May 15 concert at The San Diego Museum of Art. A native of Buenos Aires, bassist, arranger, and composer Andrés Martín has performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles in Argentina, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Brazil, Mexico, Denmark, England, Germany and United States. Since his arrival in Tijuana, Andrés has been immersed in teaching as well as performing as a soloist and chamber musician. He is a member of the Orquesta de Baja California and Cuatro para Tango, a chamber ensemble with whom he has released four recordings.
