Capitol Debate is hosting a three-part workshop series that provides middle school students with an introduction to debate and public speaking. The series does this through fun, engaging and educational debate and public speaking games. Students are not required to attend all of the workshops. The workshop is intended for students in grades 6-8. Enrollment is limited to 24 students. Are you ready to tell everyone about them and why you like them? We will get to know each other as we debate our favorites and try to find the answer to age old questions like “Is chocolate better than vanilla?” Workshop 2 - Communications Jeopardy! (May 12, 10 - 12:00 pm., Capitol Debate, 2100 Palomar Airport Rd., Carlsbad) Are you comfortable in front of a crowd? Are you an expert public speaker? We have the game for you. Join us for a session of communications where we will cover the pitfalls of public speaking, figure out what makes a good speaker and make some speeches of own. Workshop 3 - Summer Survival Challenge (May 14, 2018, 3:45 - 5:45 p.m., Carmel Valley Library) Who do you need to survive? The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker? Does it matter where you live or who you are? Let’s find out! Join us for a public speaking game where what you do or do not say and how you say it can get you voted off of the island. Are you ready?
