Walled-In: A West Berlin Girl's Journey to Freedom
2128 Chatsworth Boulevard, San Diego, 92107
Cost: Free
J. Elke Ertle interweaves history with her own memories of the Berlin Airlift, the construction of the Berlin Wall and the city's enthusiastic welcome of U.S. President, John F. Kennedy, in 1963. When her insurmountable parental walls begin to mirror the Berlin Wall, she breaks away for one year in San Diego. That was 50 years ago. Elke and her husband Burch have long been Point Loma residents.
