The Hutchins Consort: Bach & Rock
890 Balour Drive, Encinitas, 92024
Cost: $15 - $35
The Hutchins Consort is known for their mastery of the baroque music of Bach, Mozart and other classical composers, but they are equally as skilled at playing everything from Gypsy jazz to Americana and beyond. On January 19, they're bringing their popular concert Bach and Rock to St. Andrew´s Episcopal Church in Encinitas, accompanied by pianist Maksim Velichkin. You'll hear classic rock like Jimi Hendrix’ "Purple Haze" and Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song," as well as several engaging pieces by J.S. Bach. The ensemble performs on eight scaled violins from the tiny treble violin, tuned one octave above the standard violin, to the contrabass violin, tuned one octave lower than a cello, producing a wide range of sound.
