Trump’s State of Delusion
The recent delivery of the State of the Union address has marked just over one year of the most right-wing presidential administration in American history. The fictional America described in Trump’s speech of a resurgent country with a happy and grateful population won’t fool anyone. While the stock market rises to new heights propelled by reckless speculation and the continued siphoning of wealth from the bottom of society to the top, the situation confronting working people in this country and abroad is nothing short of catastrophic. Intensifying the right-wing policies of the Obama administration, Trump has continued the attack against democratic rights, against immigrants, and the working class as a whole, while threatening to cast the entire world into a military conflict from which humanity would not recover.
What is the actual record of the Trump administration, and which social interests does it represent? What has been the role of the Democratic Party, and why is their opposition to Trump restricted to the fact that he is insufficiently aggressive in confronting Russia? What is the way forward for young people and workers in the fight against Trump? In the Metzli Room of the Aztec Student Union (2nd Floor).
