ABOUT-FACE: Opening Reception
San Diego Art Institute, a premier regional contemporary art center that encourages innovation among established and emerging artists presents ABOUT-FACE, an exploration of cultural heritage, representation, and oppression. SDAI is pleased to showcase four emerging artists, all from Southern California, who deftly and intriguingly speak to social and cultural issues– sexuality, race, and cultural heritage. Artworks in the form of photography, sound installation, and video spotlight the impressive artistry of Alanna Airitam, Morgan DeLuna, Jimena Sarno, and dana washington. ABOUT-FACE also features Momentum, a video created by UCSD MFA graduate Lorna Simpson, the prominent Brooklyn-based artist whose work has been shown at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Venice Biennale. The exhibition opens April 21st and runs through June 3rd.
