Securing the Pacific with Admiral Scott Swift, Commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet
Admiral Swift will discuss maritime security challenges and opportunities in the Indo-Pacific, erosion of the rules-based international system, engagement in the South China Sea, and growing great power competition in the region. As commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Adm. Swift is in charge of 200 ships and submarines, 1,100 aircraft and 130,000 sailors and civilians in an area that encompasses 100 million square miles across the Indo- Pacific region. The lecture will be held in the auditorium of the Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine. Seating is limited. Reception: A reception will be held prior to the lecture at 5:00pm on the Bella Vista Social Club Terrace. Parking: The Sanford Consortium parking lot is located off N Torrey Pines Road and Torrey Pines Scenic Drive (Lot P385). Parking is $1 per hour. The annual IGCC Herb York Lecture honors the memory of the distinguished nuclear physicist. Dr. York was the founding chancellor of UC San Diego, first director of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, first chief scientist of Defense Advanced Research Project Agency, as well as the founding director of the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation.
