Station Eleven: Conversation with the Author
Station Eleven author Emily St. John Mandel will join KPBS North County Reporter Alison St. John for a conversation about Mandel's book, which she calls "a love letter to this extraordinary world in which we live." Mandel will discuss her writing process and the research that went into the book -- the end of the world, the history of pandemics, and the impact of the plague on Shakespeare's life and work. The event will be followed by a book signing with the author.
During the months of March and April the Oceanside Public Library will host a series of free public programs surrounding themes from the Emily St. John Mandel novel, Station Eleven. These events include a display at the Oceanside Museum of Art, Theater Workshops with the Old Globe, a scholar panel, and a visit from the author. The novel is set in the Great Lakes region, a fictional swine flu pandemic, known as the Georgia Flu, has devastated the world, killing most of the population.
