Joseph Castle: Things We Carry
Hyde Art Gallery is pleased to present the work of bronze sculptor Joseph Castle. Things We Carry consists of 15 monumental bronze wall reliefs, conceptualized and fabricated by Castle, that function as modular sacred spaces. Although solid, static, and extremely heavy, Castle’s sculptures have an undeniable feeling of movement. By incorporating and arranging found animal remnants into the bronze casting process, the artist is able to create haunting scenes of floating biomorphic shapes, like mastodons emerging partially intact from the La Brea Tar Pits.
