Imperial Beach Sun & Sea Festival
Professional and amateur sand-carving teams will compete in this longstanding San Diego tradition.
A parade featuring youth groups and civic organizations will march down Seacoast Drive at 9 a.m to show their Imperial Beach pride (this year’s parade theme is Pirates in Paradise). Children can display their sand-sculpting skills during the Kids n’ Kastles competition, where ages 5 to 12 team up to build their best sandcastle. Sample a variety of foods at the Certified Farmer’s Market and International Food Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Portwood Pier Plaza and along Seacoast Drive.
Public viewing of the sand castles takes place on Saturday only — best viewing time is 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and your best viewing spot is at Portwood Pier Plaza at Evergreen Avenue. At 5 p.m. the day’s activities conclude with an awards ceremony at, you guessed it, Pier Plaza.
