David North: A Quarter Century of War
The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 was said at the time to mark the “end of history” and the beginning of a period of lasting peace and prosperity. Instead, the past quarter century has witnessed a series of escalating military tensions and conflicts around the globe. What are the fundamental causes of militarism and war? What has been the role of the United States in particular, and what are the real objectives of its interventions abroad? What is the way forward in the struggle against war?
David North, chairman of the International Editorial Board of the World Socialist Web Site (wsws.org) will give a public lecture based on his recent book A Quarter Century of War: The U.S. Drive for Global Hegemony. The book is a collection of articles and lectures written over the past twenty-six years, tracing the development of United States foreign policy, from the first Persian Gulf War to the ongoing military quagmire in Syria.
