Police and Fire Surfing
1540 Harbor Drive, San Diego, 92054
Cost: Free
For decades, athleticism and sports have been used to reduce stress, promote physical fitness, and encourage camaraderie among members of the first-responder community. Founded by San Diego Police Lieutenant Veon “Duke” Nyhus, the first California Police Olympics was held in San Diego in 1967 and now includes a three-day surfing contest, held this year on June 28 to 30 at Oceanside Harbor at the North Harbor Jetty. Spectators can support America’s Finest as they paddle, carve, float, and rip the lip in several divisions including SUP, bodyboard, longboard, and shortboard.
