Ina Coolbrith: California's First Poet Laureate
2730 Historic Decatur Road, Barracks 16, #103, San Diego, 92106
Cost: $5
Ina Coolbrith was crowned California’s first poet laureate 101 years ago, a gesture that made her the first state laureate in America. The following year, San Diego honored her on Ina Coolbrith Day during the Panama-California Exposition. Many associate Coolbrith with San Francisco where she associated with Bret Harte, Mark Twain, and Jack London. She credited her poetic origins to Southern California where she published her first poem at age 15. Join author Aleta George, who will share stories from her award-winning biography. Her book will be available for purchase and signing.
