U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge
The U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge, a Labor Day weekend tradition, returns to San Diego. This will be the fourth year that one of the world’s most important sand-sculpting competitions will be held on this built-for-the-occasion beach, with over 300 tons of sand dumped on the pier on San Diego’s Big Bay.
Sculptors World Masters Class sand artists carve for four days. Sculptors for the 2015 event will come from Italy, Ireland, Quebec, the Netherlands, and Latvia to challenge the best from across the U.S. At stake, more than $60,000 in prize money.
Back by popular demand, the Cool California Carvers Class, which is composed of nine teams of three professionals that will each be carving for two days. Notable sculptors Bruce Phillips of Carlsbad, who won the 2013 People’s Choice Award in the World Masters Class, and Rusty Croft are returning this year to help produce the show.
