San Diego Surf Film Festival
700 Prospect Street, San Diego, 92037
Cost: $5 - $20
Surf enthusiasts and filmmakers from around the world come to celebrate the art of surf cinema in La Jolla during a three-day event with over 20 international films, dozens of filmmakers and producers, Q&As, filmmaker panel and workshops, a surf-art gallery, surf legends, shaping demos, beach clean-ups and expression sessions, live music, live art, and afterparties.
Surfing can be traced back to the pre-contact Hawaiian people. They did not regard riding a carved plank on a wave as a sport; to them, surfing was more of an art they referred to as “wave sliding.” Though San Diego is not the birthplace of surfing, it includes about 75 miles of coastline, creative board designers, and a surfing curriculum in the public school system.
