From casual communications to providing critical health and welfare communications for agencies such as the County Medical Service, the American Red Cross, and several County operations, amateur radio can be practiced and enjoyed by all.
Family fun or an important component for every family's emergency communication plan, licensed "hams" range in ages from 8 to 100, and with over 9000 licensed amateur radio operators living in San Diego County, they present a large pool of potential communicators during disasters such as wildfires, earthquakes, and floods.
