Japanese Brush Painting
The Year of the Ram and the 100th anniversary of San Diego’s historic Balboa Park will be celebrated at the 13th annual Friends of Taka Sumi-e art society show and sale.
In addition to artworks of Japanese brush paintings, the show features a narrated tea ceremony, painting demonstrations, a fashion show, and live music. The two-day event is held in Room 101, Casa del Prado, Balboa Park, located between the lily pool and the San Diego Natural History Museum. Students and associates of San Diego Community College instructor Takashi Ijichi will exhibit original paintings of many subjects in both sumi (ink) and Asian watercolors.
The show will also offer a sneak preview of a Friends of Taka art project that will be exhibited at the Balboa Park Garden Party of the Century on May 9, celebrating the Park’s Centennial.
The Ram is the 8th sign of the 12-year cycle of animals that appear in Asian Zodiac signs. In popular culture rams of the sheep and goat families are thought to love peace, and to be kind and popular.
