Russian Masters
700 Prospect Street, San Diego, 92037
Cost: $50 - $75
The Russian tradition incorporates a combination of endless melody touched by bittersweet melancholy. Featuring the Borromeo String Quartet, soprano Wendy Bryn Harmer, pianist John Novacek, and other new and returning festival artists, SummerFest brings you works by three iconic Russian Masters – Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky and Taneyev. Last heard at SummerFest 2008, Taneyev’s beautiful and poignant Piano Quintet in G Minor is back by popular demand. Pianist Joyce Yang, violinist Kerry McDermott and violist Paul Neubauer, all familiar faces at SummerFest, are joined by eminent Russian violinist Dmitry Sitkovetsky and Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Cellist, John Sharp, making their La Jolla Music Society debuts.
