Influence of African and Oceanic Arts on Modern Art
1450 El Prado, San Diego, 92101
Cost: Free - $12
A clear connection cannot always be drawn between non-Western cultures and their influence on modern and contemporary art. To Westerners, tribal objects are often prized more for their artistry than their original function.
Museum docent Mary Kay Gardner will explore how the colors, shapes, forms, and visual elements of certain tribal objects relate to their more modern counterparts.
Sponsored by the African and Pacific Arts Council.
