Bittersweet Satisfaction: Opening Reception
MiraCosta College is proud to present an art exhibit featuring the work of artist Alexis Zoto. This site-specific installation opens October 7 and continues through October 30 in the college’s Kruglak Gallery.
Alexis Zoto’s work is inspired by her ethnic heritage (Albanian Orthodox), art history, antiquities, family stories, and her experiences as a woman, wife, and mother. Drawing from both high and low culture as a source of inspiration and materials, she uses motifs from traditional Albanian textiles, buttons, birds, lace, plates, chandelier and furniture parts, and glass eyes in her work. From found materials and discarded furniture, Zoto creates work that is distinctly feminine and feminist with stories that often highlight struggles with acculturation.
Opening reception 11 a.m.–3 p.m. with talks by the artist until 2 p.m.
