The Space Between: Opening Reception
Linksoul Lab will feature 12 new large-scale oil paintings by Kathryn Nova Williams in the main gallery. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided.
Painting and sketching almost entirely from her iPhone, most of Williams's imagery is sourced from personal snapshots of trips, daily impulse photos of random inspirations, and screen shots from Instagram and the internet. All of these files are blended together to form a sort of techno-memory-collage, recorded in paint. Having extensively studied the technique of the Northern Renaissance, Williams works in a multitude of thin layers of paint, focusing on light to guide the construction of the image. To enhance the illusion of light-interaction in her paintings, she uses iridescent and reflective paint, as well as tromp l'oeil techniques to give the lights the glow akin to the luminescence we are used to seeing on our tech-devices.
Kathryn Nova Williams was born in Columbus, Ohio and studied painting, photography, and graphic design at Bowling Green State University. Following graduation, she attended the Neo-Medici Atelier in Monflanquin, France. Williams has exhibited her works nationally and internationally and currently lives and works in San Diego.
Exhibit runs November 8 to December 6.
