Journeys to Freedom: Sex Trafficking
We are excited to announce "Journeys to Freedom," an exhibition of photography by women who have survived sex trafficking in San Diego.
For the past four months, survivors living at a safe house operated by the non-profit organization GenerateHope, based in south San Diego, have been studying photography with local photographer/educator Sophia Sobko as a means of healing and self expression. We are now thrilled to present their work to the public.
Sex trafficking is a serious problem in San Diego, having recently overtaken drugs as the top cash source for gangs. This is especially relevant now given the recent bust of a North Park-based trafficking ring.
This art exhibition is a community event that addresses the dual goals of educating the public about this issue and empowering survivors. The opening reception will include a champagne/cider toast and appetizers, and selected works will be available for purchase with proceeds benefiting survivors currently rebuilding their lives at Generate Hope.
