The Canyoneers 10 a.m., May 24
Quartet Nouveau continues their 2014 series "Obsession" with music by Brahms and Arvo Pärt. In this second concert of the series, the music reflects each composer’s fixation on the compositional process.
After almost ten years of revisions, Brahms finally felt satisfied with his two String Quartet's which were published in 1873. His "tragic" string quartet No. 1 includes two outer "symphonic" movements that border the intimate inner movements, and is a dynamic and beautiful work. The second piece on the program is Fratres by Arvo Pärt, an Estonian composer who developed a compositional style he referred to as “tintinnabuli” (from the Latin tintinnabulum meaning ‘bell’).
Influenced by his interest in Medieval chant, music of the Renaissance, and Baroque tonality, Pärt evokes bell-like resonances with groupings of minimalist musical patterns.
The event includes a champagne reception with the performers.
