Family Moon Festival
404 Third Avenue, San Diego, 92101
Cost: Free - $4
The Chinese celebrate the Moon or Mid-Autumn Festival on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month by savoring the full moon, the bounty of the harvest, and delicious moon cakes. Learn about and participate in the retelling of Chinese legends about the Jade Rabbit and Cheng Er, the fairy princess living on the moon. Watch museum staff demonstrate how to prepare traditional treats while children get the chance to make their own moon cakes. Festivities in the museum garden will include Chinese arts and crafts, a calligraphy demonstration, and a chance to sample various types of moon cake.
