Based in East County, Tom Smerk has been playing in bands professionally since 1965. As of 2010, he was appearing as a solo artist at coffee house and other venues in San Diego, as well as playing lead guitar for Rightside, a country gospel rock group. Smerk plays acoustic and electric guitar, and has performed in a variety of bands including, rock, jazz, country & western, folk, bluegrass, swing, blues, classical, gospel, and polka. His album Will Play Jazz for Food was released in 2011.
A new full length dropped in 2018, Life's Good To Me. "Tracks 1 and 9 are blues, track 11 is blues rock, number 2 is R&B, tracks 3 and 7 are country, 5 and 11 are folk rock, tracks 4, 6 and 10 are hard rock, number 8 is `60s style rock, and the final track is a surf instrumental."
February 2019 saw the release of a new single called "Yard Art."
