Founded by composer/multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Sundy, Nexus 4000 (a sister group of Nexus) performs music that is comparable to the progressive rock and jazz-fusion of the 1960s and 1970s. The music is a synthesis of psychedelic and prog rock sensibilities, with an underlying foundation of improvisation and harmony that is characteristic of music from modern jazz traditions.
In early 2019, Sundy assembled some new personnel for the first Nexus 4000 performance in over a year, staged at the Whistle Stop on February 20.
