"I started playing saxophone in the 3rd grade," says saxophonist Nathan Collins, who first came to notice while still attending Scripps Ranch High School and being showcased in Gilbert Castellanos’ Young Lions series.
While studying at USC, he moonlighted by playing with Solange Knowles and touring with John Fogerty. “Onstage, I get to do a couple of saxophone solos during our set,” he told the Reader of touring with Fogerty. “At first, I was very nervous, trying to do them exactly as they were on the record, John Fogerty actually played the solos himself, but John told me I was playing them way better than him, and that allowed me to have fun with it. He seems to dig what I’m doing.”
