Keyboard player Joe Witkin performed at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 as an original member of Sha Na Na. Credited with being the first group to introduce the idea of bringing back the oldies, Sha Na Na is best known for their syndicated TV show in the late seventies and their appearance in the movie Grease.
Witkin sang "Teenager in Love" on the first Sha Na Na album, though he left the group in 1970 to attend medical school. He moved to San Diego in 1975 to serve an internship and residency at UCSD, later becoming an ER physician at Scripps Hospital East County (1978 - 2000) and Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa (2001 to present). He currently plays locally with the Corvettes and his son Brian Witkin founded Pacific Records.
