Hilary Michels attended La Jolla High School, where her fellow student was local music maestro Bart Mendoza. After graduating from SDSU with a degree in music, dance, and drama in 1983, she played in various local jazz and big-band groups, though her musical aspirations took a back seat to her corporate day jobs over the next quarter century.
In November 2009, at the age of 49, Michels released her debut album, Brave New World. According to Michels, “My music centers around themes of love, survival, healing, aliveness, awareness, social commentary, planetary issues, and self-deprecating humor.”
