Jazz/blues singer Barbara Jamerson came to local prominence with Fro Brigham's Preservation Band. Her repertoire includes performances with Pacific Brass and Electric, Hot and Spicy Etoufee, and her own band, Barbara Jamerson and Two Deep.
Jamerson toured with several female jazz groups, Sophisticates, Capricorn, and Women in Jazz. She is a 2008 SDMA Best Jazz CD nominee, for her album I Wish You Love.
After a 2008 performance at Pala Casino on Sunday, August 17, she complained of numbness and tingling in her legs and was admitted to Sharp hospital. Diagnosed with a tumor on her side, she suffered cardiac arrest after blood clots in her lungs restricted oxygen to her brain.
She passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2008.
