Two Top U-T Officials Get the Axe
Bobbie is a class act. All of my interactions with her were pleasant. There were no surveys for the last few years, I supposed they didn't have time to care about morale anymore. I really did not see any changes due to the surveys. Ralph Imhoff used to go over the results with us, after he left, no more surveys... coincidence? Also, yes, Jessica and Fransisco were walked out the previous Friday, so CFO and Editor of Enlace, gone.— June 2, 2009 2:06 p.m.
Laid-Off U-T Workers Told to Leave Friday, Will Be Paid until July 6
Holy Crap! You knew about this before I did and I got a letter! I guess all of your editorial contacts are still intact. My last day is June 12th... curious logic on the new plan.— May 20, 2009 9 p.m.
Platinum Equity Names New Union-Tribune Publisher with Reputation for Cuts
Wow. So far the prediction is quite accurate. Most of the 192 were senior staff (read - more expensive). Not just in Editorial. Operations, Circulation, Accounting and Advertising were mostly senior staff too. There was nothing to be said for experience when cuts were being made. Apparently, someone who has no experience, but gets paid less can easily do the job of someone who has years (sometimes decades) of knowledge, right? I think I'll change my username to SnarkyGirlSD.— May 12, 2009 12:55 p.m.
Tracking the Takeover: Union-Tribune layoffs on schedule
It's a sad time. Not just for the 192 of us that will be leaving the paper, but for the newspaper biz. :-(— May 12, 2009 10:01 a.m.
Copley Bell Rings No More: Union-Tribune Sale Closes Monday?
The logo on the sign out front is already gone, as is the Copley flag that flew along side the California state flag. Everything with Copley on it is gone, even the door mats at the entrance to the building... and our morale. :(— May 4, 2009 9:57 a.m.
Norv Turner's dinner in Los Angeles
I would be very unhappy if the Chargers left, but Norv can leave town anytime. He is the worst coach ever. I have seen more emotion out of a tub of butter! I think I can speak for all San Diegans when I say "Spanos - sell the Chargers to someone who likes San Diego, San Diegans are tired of your poor management and nepotism, seriously!"— April 20, 2009 12:26 p.m.
Copley Pension System Solid, Strategy Intelligently Conservative
Response to #2 - The Copley Pension is not part of the sale. It is separately held and therefore secure. Black can not touch it. - Even if it was included in the sale, it would not be legal... Response to #7 - I agree, quite sad and wrong. I hope the folks who need help can find another avenue (like the VA) to get the medical help they require.— April 20, 2009 10:09 a.m.
Entrepreneur Who Bribed SPAWAR Employee Gets Two Years
What about the people she paid off? Were they undercover or are they busted too?— April 10, 2009 9:20 a.m.
U-T Heads Will Be Chopped More Severely; Economics Dictates It
Response to #47 - In this economy, I'm worried. But I am the master of my fate and know that even though I would be sad not to be here with my family, I would be fine. Folks who have done the same manual process or who work in editorial would most likely have to move or choose a new type of work. I'm in the kind of niche you can do anywhere, which is why I don't worry as much.— March 31, 2009 9:53 a.m.
U-T Heads Will Be Chopped More Severely; Economics Dictates It
Response to #34 - I suppose you must work in Editorial. I truly do worry for your department. I hope all works out for you. I heard from someone in management that they are not "allowed" to tell anything. Of course, they could say that to everyone so you could breathe out. Hang in there! Response to #38 - I am on the inside... just not in Editorial. I think that is where the fear is brewing. Response to #41 - I help put the U-T out every day. Why don't you get a job making a difference and see if you feel ownership and pride in what you do. Maybe that will make you less bitter.— March 30, 2009 11:12 a.m.
