South American palm weevil hard to kill

San Ysidro, Chula Vista, and now Bonita residents are watching their Canary Island palms choke and die — sometimes with the entire crown falling to the ground below. The culprit? The South American palm weevil ...

Fill your piehole Japanese style

Grilled squid, sautéed pork ginger, lemon chicken, sautéed pork kimchi, on and on, $3.95 each.

"Hi! Welcome! Yókoso!” It’s this lady at the cashier desk. Love that about Japanese eateries. I know it’s just business, but welcomes like this kinda make you feel good. I had just hopped off the ...

One-stop vote and Kasparian protest

"We're here to show our support for Sandy and Isabel."

It was hard to tell if the local Democrat celebrities outside the Chula Vista Machinists Hall Saturday afternoon (January 7) were taking part in the protest or just there to vote. About 150 people stood ...

As tilapia goes by

“Oh, wow!” says Mary Beth. “Ed, you’ve gotta try this shrimp soup. It’s the best.”

Oh, boy. Fish looks up at me from the plate. His open mouth seems to be saying something. “Help!” “See that?” I ask Mary Beth. “Your imagination,” she says, “is running rampant. It’s a tilapia. ...

Chula Vista is pretty diverse. There is more to Chula Vista than a guy with a sombrero hat or a Mexican folk dance dress.

We enjoy riding the designated bike lanes from National City, to Chula Vista, along the Silver Strand Highway and ending up at the Ferry Landing in Coronado. Great ride!

Chula Vista has its ups and downs. I've lived here my whole life. I've met great nice people and seen beautiful places here and there. I enjoy it around here (:

Ah, chula vista. My old stomping grounds. actually chula vista/bonita hold a special place in my heart. Its where i learned most of the things i know today. Like how to open a beer with nothing more than 2 unopened bottles of beer. Also where i honed my Street fighter 2 skills, trained in chula vista accepting all challengers!!!!!!!! Hadouken!!!!!

The amphitheater phenomenon struck again tonight. For years in the Terra Nova neighborhood off of H street and the 805 freeway, we have been able to hear concerts from the Sleeptrain amphitheater over on Main street. This is at least 8 miles away from our hilltop homes. I can distinctly hear guitar riffs though lead vocals are a little muffled. Some boy band is on the bill tonight. The really strange thing is that it does not happen for every concert. The weather has to be just right or we do not hear a thing. One of the neighbors actually called the police to complain about the loud party they thought was going on past 10 in the evening. First time I heard it years ago I thought it was one tight cover band.

Lived here in CV for a good portion of my life and I've loved everything about it! Nice lake out back to go fishing, nice hiking trails if you can find them, conveniently placed shopping centers. Everything you'd need is here in CV! And let's not forget... both the Parkview and Eastlake Little League teams were from here ;)
