David Chase conducts chorus and orchestra in the season finale, an inspired pairing of works by two European masters who came to the U.S. at the beginning of WWII. Featured is Paul Hindemith’s moving setting of Walt Whitman’s elegy for Abraham Lincoln, When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d: a Requiem for those we love, considered to be his finest work. Mezzo-soprano Janelle DeStefano and baritone David Chase solo. The program begins with Benjamin Britten’s American Overture composed in 1941 for the Cleveland Orchestra.
