Mule Hill: Field Notes
Jeff Smith 11:23 a.m., May 17
The event features Indian classical music and its influence on modern-day composers. From the music of the recently passed Ravi Shankar to the explosion of Bollywood films, Indian sounds have infiltrated our culture.
Featuring specialists in the Indian classical tradition as well as Robert Aldridge's "threedance,"a highly rhythmic and lyrical work for violin, marimba and tabla, this program draws connections between yesterday and today, while reminding us of the transportive nature of music. New York musicians Arun Ramamurthy (violin), Roopa Mahadevan (vocals) and Rajna Swaminathan (mridangam) will make their San Diego debut and present an extended set of traditional Carnatic music.
