Museum turns into Monte Carlo
On Saturday, Sep 8, the Museum of Contemporary Art La Jolla (700 Prospect St) will transform into the silver screen at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception followed by dinner at 8 p.m. For the Museum's 36th annual gala, the "walls, floors, and ceilings will be bathed in flickering lights and the saturated colorful glow of masterful artists, from the well known to the obscure, creating a truly magical feast for the senses. Get out your red carpet attire and prepare to be treated to the ‘A List’ experience. At Monte Carlo On Screen, you're the star!" Tables cost $650+ and benefit the Museum.
If this is out of your price range there's always The After Party which will take place at 9:30 p.m. in the same space with "premium cocktails, charity gambling tables, and savory movie-themed snacks and sweets" as well as a disco room, lounge, an Adults Only gallery, and "a glimpse of avant garde filmmaking with an adult twist." And a public art performance of strip poker titled I'll Raise You One will be conducted by New York-based artist Zefrey Throwell. "At the end of each round, players begin again using a different economic model, from socialism to wild west land grab capitalism." After Party tickets are $100-150.
