Singer and style-maven Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein started the new-wave band in mid-’70s Manhattan, quickly becoming regulars at East Coast–punk ground-zero CBGB and Max’s Kansas City. Incorporating elements of disco and pop into their punk-rock beats, the band broke into the mainstream with several early singles, including signature hits “Call Me” and “Heart of Glass,” which to our ears still ring true. On the band’s 40th anniversary in 2014 they released the two-record set Blondie 4(0) Ever/Ghosts of Download, a greatest-hits disc backed with an all-original tenth record from the revitalized band.
Catch up with Blondie when they take the stage at Observatory North Park on Saturday. The bill includes Prima Donna.
