Art of Music: SD Youth Symphony
The Art of Music Concert Series kicks off its summer program with China Tour Bon Voyage, a celebratory concert launching the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory’s 70th Anniversary season before the orchestra departs on its China tour (June 23 through July 5). This program features the tour orchestra made up of 82 of the youth symphony’s most advanced students. Accompanied by select SDYS alumni and several professional musicians from the San Diego Symphony, this concert includes a sampling of works from their tour repertoire such as Alexander Glazunov's Overture Solennelle Op. 73, Peter Illych Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue (Piano solo and Orchestra), and Peter Illych Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2 Op. 17.
This is the sixth concert in the monthly Art of Music Concert Series, presented in conjunction with the Museum's 2015 initiative The San Diego Museum of Art Celebrates 100 Years of Art in Balboa Park, and the centennial exhibition The Art of Music (opening September 2015). Attendees to these summer concerts are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair, grab a bite to eat at Panama 66, or to pack their own picnic.
