San Diego metro area home values rose 0.9 in August from July, according to Zillow.com -- better than the slight decline of 0.1% of the collective 30 largest markets. San Diego's median home value is now $351,300 -- bettered only by San Jose ($589,200), San Francisco ($491,700) and Los Angeles ($392,500). By contrast, the median home value in Detroit is $77,600. The median San Diego monthly rent, which rose 0.9% in August, is $2,111, topped only by San Jose ($2,603), San Francisco ($2,475) and Los Angeles ($2,296), according to Zillow.
