And not just any pose. It's like they have their own Avengers signature move - call it the Superhero Squat, maybe. One knee down, one up; one hand down, one up; and five, six, seven, eight. Cases in point:
Captain America!
Thor!
Iron Man!
The Black Widow!
Hawkeye can't quite be expected to play along, since it takes two hands to manage a bow. But look at this splendid mid-leap form - the pointed toe, the tucked leg. Fabulous.
Don't you agree, Possibly Lascivious Hulk?

Who choreographed this film, Kenny Ortega? Sheesh!

Great post.
I've noticed this for a long time; glad you said it!
"Selene" (I had to look that up), à la Kate Beck in Underworld, does this.
Movie Batman does this.
Movie Spider-Man does this, big time.
I think it comes from the comics themselves. It's a way to show in a static image that the character has "landed" from a high jump. That must be shown in one image on the printed page.
The movie directors and cinematographers took that on, even though it looks dumb in real life.

Good eye on those other films, jhutt! I would have guessed Selene, but I confess missing it in Batman.
