Food Stamp Fight!
Let's send Spain the bill. Without their imperialism, there would be no Mexicans. You can see where this is going.— April 25, 2009 2:24 a.m.
Games Gangs Play
I was in a gang, once. They shaved our heads (no tattoos, though), and made us wear over-sized green clothing, live behind wire mesh fencing. We all looked the same, sounded the same, at the same food, and kept the same schedules every day. Fortunately, I was able to get out of the gang after 4 long years.— April 24, 2009 12:13 a.m.
Games Gangs Play
Looks like they finally ran cable to Spliff's mom's basement.— April 24, 2009 12:09 a.m.
Food Stamp Fight!
Higher than the national average welfare benefits, easy access to same, combined with the climate, is what started the invasion of our once beautiful state back in the early to mid 70's. They came from the upper mid-west and the east, mostly. They were loud-mouthed, rude, obnoxious people; self-centered, unfeeling, uncaring, slobs who despoiled the culture and the landscape. They were typified by the stereotypical New Yorker. They, with their laziness, encouraged the decline of the work ethic amongst Californios, and the increased dependence on cheap labor. Their credo was "price is more important than quality," and their mindset was "how can I get over (on everyone else)?" They turned their areas of the country into dirty, dangerous, over-crowded slums, and they're well on their way to doing the same with our beloved state. Who said isolationism was a bad thing?— April 24, 2009 midnight
New Padres ownership raises conflict of interest questions for a CCDC board member
There's no conflict of interest in the minds of the San Diego City council members...you kick down some duckets, problem solved. Frickin' who-ores. Sellin' out the citizens is not just a job, it's an avocation. Besides, if Henderson is ag'in it, we must be for it.— April 23, 2009 11:47 p.m.
Fury Lane Incident
San Diego used to be such a nice place...back in the 70's.— April 23, 2009 11:43 p.m.
San Diego Unemployment Soars to 9.3%. County Loses 44,600 Jobs over Year
Response to post #14: Don, you're a "nattering nabob of negativity." Sorry, just had to go there on account of my being stationed in Maryland for the forseeable future. That's a clue as to who actually uttered the above phrase, for those of you who are playing along at home for the "no prize." Keep up the good work, Don.— April 20, 2009 8:35 a.m.
The Urge Remains
I worked at that 76 station as a mechanic many, many years ago, not long after they sold the...let's see...Exxon? Not sure, but it was right across the street, about where the hospital is now. Drove by recently (within the last month or so); sad to see the place all boarded up and run down. Even though it doesn't look like it did when I worked there. Here's the problem that none of the idiots on the city council will stop to consider while they're having wet dreams of revenue: traffic. There's not an In 'n Out anywhere that doesn't generate lots and lots of traffic. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against an In n Out. I'm against uncontrolled, unsmart growth.— April 20, 2009 12:16 a.m.
Police Officer Shootings
For the most part, I agree with you, Josh. Back in the old days, criminals knew not to mess with the po-lice. This kinder, gentler crap has been the fertilizer for a more vicious, hardened criminal element. RE: the City Beat. So far, the online feedback at City Beat is 1 outstanding letter (which I'm surprised they printed - get it while it's still there), and one moronic "the poor, gentle compassionate old soul wouldn't hurt a fly and the cop needs to be held accountable." Like I said, get it while it's still up there: http://www.sdcitybeat.com/cms/story/detail/this_w…— April 19, 2009 7:06 p.m.
Games Gangs Play
Gang-bangers are nothing but domestic terrorists, and ought to be treated as such. In fact, we need to start using the death penalty way more often than we do in this country.— April 19, 2009 6:54 p.m.
