Antwerp: spiritual, corporeal, coarse and refined
Say, Tamar, did you see anything like a Belgium waffle while over there? Or, is that strictly an American thing?— May 23, 2013 10:45 p.m.
Carrier suit against U-T begins tomorrow
I hope the carriers are successful with their suit. It's about time these workers were treated like adults. These are not kids on bicycles anymore and they should not be treated like second-class citizens. Waiters and waitresses do not have their pay docked if the customer complains about the food. Their tip may be short, but their puny paycheck does not take the hit. Also, what job requires one to use their car routinely in the course of their work and not pay mileage? Newspapers have been treating these folks like sub-class for too long. It's time.— May 23, 2013 7:05 p.m.
Bootleggers busted making bucks off Mexican Olympics
Mexican National Olympics? I did not get the memo. Did anyone see anything this side of the border letting people know about these events?— May 21, 2013 8:28 p.m.

State Supreme Court grants cities the authority to ban Medical Marijuana dispensaries
This is absurd. How is it that the citizens of California voted to allow medical marijuana, and yet the State Supreme Court can rule that cities may ban it? What is the point of the people in a State voting to have their laws reflect their beliefs, if certain individuals, especially those with influence on the courts, can undermine those laws? Well, at least it makes clear, in case anyone had any doubts, that our so-called democracy is an obvious sham.— May 6, 2013 7:10 p.m.
Woman sues City of San Diego for excessive force by police officer during a Chargers game
I hope this lady gets quadruple of whatever she is seeking. Somebody needs to rein in these psychotic cops. They are going completely overboard with the use of (sometimes fatal) force. I don't know if it is because they are scared to death, or because they have been trained to take down attacking terrorists, and don't have the intelligence to know the difference, but they are clearly the craziest bunch of criminals we have on the streets. Between shooting unarmed homeless; beating unarmed men and women senseless; displaying road rage; shooting unarmed women and children; and the unnecessary use of tazers and other defensive weapons, it is quickly becoming clear that the police are in need of some serious counseling, at the very least! Don't they do any psyche profiling at the academy anymore? This is inexcusable.— May 3, 2013 6:58 p.m.
For what it's worth: New York magazine noticed Bronx Pizza a while back
Ha! The best New York pizza is made in good ol' Sandy Eggo! Who knew? I did, so this news does not surprise me at all. I've always said you can tell good pizza by the amount of oil running down your arm while you're eating. Bronx is the BEST! I have the stained shirts to prove it. And notfanuttin, but...these prison release programs have turned out to be the greatest success stories we've seen in years. ; )>— May 1, 2013 6:29 p.m.
